How to Measure the ROI of Your Sales Incentive Program

The question finance asks about every incentive program — "is this paying off?" — is one that most sales organizations can't answer. They know what they spent on rewards. They know, roughly, what quota attainment looked like during the program period.

But they don't have the pre/post behavioral comparison, the participation rate analysis, the payout-to-revenue attribution, or the control group data that would let them answer with confidence. The result: incentive programs get renewed based on anecdote and gut feel, underperforming programs persist because no one can prove they're underperforming, and high-performing programs don't get the budget increase they've earned because the ROI case isn't documented.
